Do you think Bud would be a good child to adopt? What are his strong points? How would he add to a family? How do you think he would fit into your family?

  1. I think Bud would be a great child to adopt. I think this because he is caring for others and he would be respectful to the parents and kids. His strong points are he is gracious, independent, and he is smart. He would add to a family by, I think he would be considerate to everyone there. Most siblings are kind of annoying to each other but I think since his mom died he would appreciate your family and how thing work in your family. He would fit into our family by, he would be generous and help us. Also, he is very polite. I think Bud is a nice kid and I would adopt him!

    1. Maiti, I completely agree with you! Bud is everything you described and he has lots of strong points. He would fit into any family. He also would be extra help, like you said in your response.

    2. + Maiti. I really like that you said " I think since his mom died he would appreciate a family." That sentence expresses Bud's feeling towards having a caring family really well.

  2. Wow! I just read Maiti's comment, and I'm not quite sure I could add much more to that. I absolutely agree that Bud would be a wonderful child to adopt. He is smart, thoughtful and very intuitive. I think he would be so appreciative of a family that would take care of him. He clearly holds his memories (especially the few items in his suitcase) with such care, I have no doubt he would be grateful to any family that would be willing to bring him into their home to create new memories.

  3. I would think that Bud will be a good child to adopt for my family because he is my age so he wouldn’t get beaten up and he will be caring and respectful. Also, my family will care for him unlike the Amos’s. We also have a dog that won’t bite and Bud will be able to play with him.

  4. Do you think Bud would be a good child to adopt? What are his strong points? How would he add to a family? How do you think he would fit into your family?

I think that Bud would be a good child to adopt for two reasons. First, he seems as if he needs to have a good family to love him and care for him and I think that many families could do so. Second, Bud is very caring as he said that he didn’t want any more kids to go to the Amos’s house because they are so mean to kids and so he was going to make a move.

I think that Bud has many strong points. First, he is very loving, he was loving when he was trying to make Jerry feel better about going to live with the three little girls. Next, Bud is very caring, Bud was caring when he said that he didn’t want anyone else to have to go to the Amos’s house because they were really mean to him and he didn’t anyone else to have to get treated like that. Then, Bud is very brave, he showed bravery when he snuck into the Amos’s house to give them payback and he went to Todd’s room with warm water to make him wet the bed so Mrs. Amos would get mad at Todd.

I think he would add to a family very well because he has good feelings and is kind to people who are nice to him. He also would try to make the family look to the bright side if they are feeling sad about something I think that Bud would help them feel better about themselves.

I think that Bud would fit good into my family but, I think that he could fit into some other families a bit better than mine. I think that Bud would get treated nice in my family. I don’t think that anyone in my family would be mean to him or try to hurt him and we would be able to understand the trouble that he has been through.

  5. I think Bud would be an nice child to adopt, he is a lonely child and a great one too but, he would probably fuss sometimes, I bet my family wouldn’t mind. Although his mom died my family would make him share memories and we would make memories with him. Bud doesn’t get a lot of food so I bet my family would be glad to feed him. That’s why I think Bud would be a nice child to adopt.

  6. I think that Bud would be a good child to adopt because he would fit into our family really well. In my family we have three older boys and one younger girl. He would be a good child to adopt. Bud´s strong points are hopeful, grateful, and kind. He would be the same age as i am so he would fit fairly well because he is scared of older kids and he and I would be the oldest. He would add to the family by his athleticism ( if he has some) and brains.

  7. I think that Bud would be a good child to adopt for three reasons. First of all, he has a humorous side. He made me laugh when I was reading this book. The second reason Bud would be a good child to adopt is that he is respectful and he gets along with a lot of people. The third and final reason that Bud would be a good child to adopt is that he is compassionate. Bud is compassionate because he has a bright spirit and would be great with a family like mine. Bud would fit into my family because he would get along with everyone and he would be a big help around the house. Bud’s strong points are that he is helpful, respectful, responsible, and he is also kind. I believe that Bud is a kind person and he would be great to adopt!

    1. I totally agree with that, I think Bud gets along with many people. I think he was trying to get along with Todd but Todd was not. Great post!

    2. How did Bud make you laugh in the book?

    3. I disagree, I don't think that Bud was trying to be friends with Todd, I just think that Bud was trying to avoid Todd and not be mean to him but also not be too kind.

    4. Kate, Bud made me laugh when he poured the water on Todd’s pajamas, when he pretended he was a baseball player with the rake. Overall, Bud has been hilarious. And Maiti, thank you!!!

  8. I think bud would be a good child to adopt because he is brave and smart. I think his strong points would be bravery, and strength. I think it would be bravery because he decided to try to take down a vampire bat in the shed that the Amos locked him up in. I would choose strength for bud because he is surviving through the great depression, and he broke the shed window and escaped. In my family I think Bud would add a lot more trouble and he would probably add a little more intelligence to my family of five.

  9. I think that Bud would be a good child to adopt. His strong points are that he is thoughtful, loyal, and resourceful. I can tell that Bud is thoughtful because of the items that he keeps in his suitcase. His family, and his memories are important to him. Bud is loyal to his friends at the home, and to the memories of his family members. His loyalty drives him to try to find his father. Bud demonstrates resourcefulness throughout the story. He is able to take care of himself when his foster brother is a bully, and when he is locked in the Amos' shed. He is able to find a place to sleep, and knows how to have his basic needs (like food and shelter) met.

Bud would fit into my family because he has a kind heart. He is reflective and creative. Bud and the other members of our family would make an effort to get to know one another and to form caring, trusting, relationships. Bud is always thinking about the people around him, and about his memories. This is a quality that we respect and value in our family. Finally, Bud is creative. We would all have fun thinking of new ways to solve problems, and new games to play together.

    1. Mrs. G, I agree with you! Bud has lots of loyalty and he takes care of himself, from getting locked in a shed to getting stung by hornets. He takes good care of his possessions. He also uses his mind to get out of the shed. Bud thinks about what he is doing before he does it, like breaking the window.

  10. I think that Bud would be a great child to adopt. He is very grateful and resourceful.
But I also think that bud would not be a good child to adopt because my mom wouldn’t be able to take care of all three of us. Bud would be a good child to adopt in maybe a one child family or just be adopted to make a family but not in a 2 child family or more. In my opinion bud would be great in a certain family just not mine. And plus Bud had a pretty horrible life so why would you not want to adopt him?

    1. I think you should adopt him because he has a horrible life and I would want to make it better... He is a nice kid but, like you I have a brother, so my family might not be able to put up with an other child.

    2. I agree with Lily I know someone with four kids and they would definitely adopt Bud.

  11. I think Bud would be a great kid to adopt because he is very well behaved and disciplined. He would probably keep to himself a lot and go through his suit case regularly. Bud has a very kind, and gentle heart and I think he would fit into my family just fine.

    3. I agree, Bud has hope, and is determined to get food during the great depression, i'm surprised how Bud got over it. His gentleness touches everyone choosing to adopt him, in different ways.

  12. I think Bud would not be good to adopt in our family. Cause A.J is kinda popular at his school and he has lots of friends and he is always makes fun of me with his friends all the time. So I think Bud would not be good in our family because he would just be made fun of with me and Blake.

  13. I think Bud would be a good child to adopt because he is about as well behaved as me (not very well behaved). He seems like he would be good at sharing some things, but not going to far with them. He would fit in with our family because he is thoughtful and acts a lot like me and Reid, and he has a lot of personality, like my brother. He may not enjoy my brother so much because Reid is 12, and acts kind of like Todd with all the drama and hurting other people.

  14. Kate, I also have a family of five and Bud would add a lot more trouble to my family! My brother is always doing “interesting” things, from handcuffing our puppy’s back feet to putting paper in my shoes. He always gets caught, but he never stops doing his pranks! Bud would be a great child to adopt!

  15. I think Bud would be a good child to adopt because he has lots of good ideas and is miserable. I do not think he will be a good addition to our family because our house is already really crowded and we are weird, where as he is more serious.

  16. I agree with much of what others have already said about Bud. I think he would also fit in well with our family. Bud has a very active imagination and it sometimes can get him into trouble (like the hornet's nest in the shed). Both of my kids are also very creative and imaginative and they probably would enjoy having him around--although it might add some more mischief to our lives. Also, he is very sentimental about the contents of his suitcase. As a family, we have many belongings that we are sentimental about so we would appreciate sharing that personality trait with Bud. Most of all, I think Bud would thrive in a loving family such as ours.

  17. Yes, Bud would fit in with me and my brothers because we are pretty mature and kind of responsible. Buds strong points are he is mature, serious, and helpful. Bud would add into a family pretty good if they were just like him.

  18. I think Bud will be a great child to adopt because he can fit into any family. Also, he is very caring for others. So he would be great around other kids and his parents would love him. He loves to play with other kids and parents love him. So, he would be great around other kids and parents would love him. He is very smart, independent, and gracious. My family is playful, and athletic that Bud would fit into our family very well.

  19. I think Bud would be a good child to adopt for two reasons. First, he is a brave boy that doesn’t give up. For example when he was locked in the shed he didn’t give up on trying to escape and he successfully got out of it. Second, he is respectful to other people and he does what they want him to do to them. If he got adopted to the right family, I think he would bring happiness, hope, and joy. I think he would fit into my family if he was just a little less rough, honest, more smiley, and obedient.

  21. I think Bud would be a good child to adopt because he has good manners because on page 50 when the waitress gives them oatmeal he automatically says "thank you ma'am." I also think he would be a good child to adopt because hes encouraging I think hes encouraging because Jerry seems really nerve's but Bud cheers him up.
